Mobile phone, or handphone in Singaporean English, has become such a huge and integral part of our everyday lives and it is no longer merely a gadget for texting and calling. A smartphone has become a pocket-sized personal gateway to the wider world. Many have turned to make online purchases via their smartphone especially during the pandemic while young adults have used smartphones as part of a job search, or used mobile dating apps and read an e-book on their smartphones according to a recent 2015 survey by Pew Research Center. In fact, the list of its functions goes on.
Do you know the first mobile phone was invented by Motorola in 1973? It was a beige and black brick that weighed 1.1kg and had 9.1 x 5.1 x 1.8 inches for dimensions.
Apple CEO Steve Jobs then unveiled the first iPhone, the first smartphone designed and marketed by Apple Inc., on Jan. 9, 2007.
Since then, every ad for Apple’s iPhones shows 9:41 AM – that’s the time when Steve Jobs announced the first iPhone in 2007.
