How to Use Gemini Sketch: A Simple Step-by-Step Guide

The Gemini Sketch feature lets you turn simple drawings into high-quality AI images. Here is how to get started using your mobile app.

Getting Started

First, open the Gemini app on your phone and tap "New Chat" at the top left to start a fresh session.

1. Select and Open Your Image

To begin, tap the Plus (+) icon at the bottom left to choose a photo from your gallery. Once the image is attached to your message, tap the thumbnail of the image to open the editor.Start by tapping the Plus (+) icon, located in the bottom-left corner, to select a photo from your gallery. After the image is added to your message, tap the image thumbnail to launch the editor.

2. Draw Your Ideas with the Sketch Tool

Once the editor is open, select the Sketch icon from the bottom menu. Choose a color and draw the rough shape of what you want to add. In this example, we’ve drawn simple wings. When you’re finished, tap Done .Open the editor and tap the Sketch icon in the bottom menu. Select your desired color and draw the basic shape you wish to include—simple wings are used in this example. Complete the process by tapping Done .

3. Describe Your Creation

Now, tell Gemini what your drawing is. Type a clear description into the prompt box. For example, "Create butterfly flies behind the subject at the area circled in red." Then, tap the Send arrow to process your request.Next, describe your drawing to Gemini by typing a clear description into the prompt box—for instance, "Give her butterfly wings where I sketched them." Finally, tap the Send arrow to process your request.

4. View Your Final Result

Gemini will take your rough sketch and your text prompt to generate a polished, final image. You can now save or share your new AI-enhanced photo!
